Ethics for Professional Counselors (6 CE Hours)

 

Target Audience: Professional counselors whose objective is to complete an ethics course based on the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and National Board for Certified Counselors Code of Ethics. This course does not cover state-specific laws.

Course Description: This course is based on the current version of American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and National Board for Certified Counselors Code of Ethics. In addition, this course includes the ACA Practitioner’s Guide to Ethical Decision Making, ACA A Living Document of Ethical Guidance, and NBCC Policy Regarding the Provision of Distance Professional Services.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Apply the ethical standards as a guide designed to assist professional counselors in constructing a course of action that best serves those utilizing counseling services
    • Describe the minimum ethical behaviors and enforceable set of directives for professional counselors when providing services to clients
    • Apply a practical, sequential, seven-step, ethical decision-making model for examining an ethical dilemma
    • Describe the key principles in the Policy Regarding the Provision of Distance Professional Services

    Course Author(s) Qualifications:

    Dr. Forester-Miller is President and founder of Wellness Consultants International, PLLC in Durham, NC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and consultant with 25 years of experience, as well as designated as an Approved Consultant in Clinical Hypnosis by the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.

    Dr. Davis is Professor of Counselor Education at Ohio University, where he teaches in the areas of school and community counseling. His professional experience also includes lecturing, offering workshops, counseling, and consulting in the areas of school counseling and brief therapy. He is the author of many journal articles. He has given over 40 presentations at state and national conferences on the subject of professional counseling.

    Laurie Meyers is the current senior writer for Counseling Today with the American Counseling Association. Laurie has most recently been working as an independent writer and editing consultant but has more than 15 years of experience as a health writer.
