Course Description: This course presents a select group of strategies based on the best available evidence to help communities and states sharpen their focus on prevention activities with the greatest potential to prevent suicide. These strategies include: strengthening economic supports; strengthening access and delivery of suicide care; creating protective environments; promoting connectedness; teaching coping and problem-solving skills; identifying and supporting people at risk; and lessening harms and preventing future risk. The strategies represented in this course include those with a focus on preventing the risk of suicide in the first place as well as approaches to lessen the immediate and long-term harms of suicidal behavior for individuals, families, communities, and society.

Dr. Stone is a Behavioral Scientist in the Division of Violence Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She received her Doctor of Science degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2010 and has dual Master’s degree in Social Work and Public Health from the University of Michigan in 1996.
Dr. Holland is a Behavioral Scientist in the Division of Violence Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She received her PhD in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Public Health degree from Georgia State University.
Dr. Bartholomew received his doctoral degree from the University of Maryland in 2012.
Dr. Crosby is the Branch Chief of the Surveillance Branch of the Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) in the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). He received his MD from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and his MPH in health policy and management from Emory University School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Davis works at Office of Smoking Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Wilkins is a Behavioral Scientist in the Division of Violence Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She received her PhD in Community Psychology, Public Health from Georgia State University.
