Course Description: This course provides a systematic review of interventions for children (0–12 years) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), focusing on recent studies of behavioral interventions. This course will help bring clinicians up to date about the current state of evidence related to behavioral interventions, and it provides an assessment of the quality of studies that aim to determine the outcomes of therapeutic options for the management of ASD.

Dr. Weitlauf has a broad background in clinical and developmental psychology, with specific training and expertise in the early identification of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). As a predoctoral intern at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and postdoctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University, she received specialized training in screening and diagnostic assessment of children and adults with ASD. Dr. Weitlauf has continued this work as a faculty member at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. McPheeters is a healthcare epidemiologist who has worked in evidence-based medicine and comparative effectiveness for over a decade. She completed her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, led systematic reviews at the CDC as a coordinating scientist for the Guide to Community Preventive Services, and now is the Director of Vanderbilt’s Evidence-based Practice Center.
Ms. Sathe is the Assistant Director of the Vanderbilt University Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC). At the EPC she orchestrates the various phases of evidence reviews and works closely with methods and content leads and project coordinators to ensure that reviews are on track.
Dr. Travis completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology, with a concentration in Child and Family Clinical Psychology. Dr. Travis's subsequent training includes a predoctoral internship at the Tulsa Center for Child Psychology followed by a postdoctoral research/clinical fellowship in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Disabilities at Vanderbilt Kennedy Center/Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Pediatrics, Division of Developmental Medicine. In 2014, Dr. Travis joined the faculty of UT Southwestern as part of the Department of Psychiatry in the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
Dr. Aiello is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the Associate Director of the UNC TEACCH Autism Program - Charlotte Center.
Dr. Williamson joined the Vanderbilt Faculty in 2010. He is an attending psychiatrist in the Vanderbilt Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and is the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program Director.
Dr. Veenstra-VanderWeele is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who uses molecular and translational neuroscience research tools in the pursuit of new treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He moved his research program to Columbia University, the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital Center for Autism and the Developing Brain in 2014 to continue to pursue novel treatments for children with these challenging conditions.
Dr. Krishnaswami is a Staff Scientist in the EPC and a physician by training (India) with a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology (infectious diseases) from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
